Awards history

The Seatrade Awards were first introduced in 1989 in the splendour of London’s Guildhall.

With the industry three years into recovery from a slump that had lasted more than a decade, the inaugural gathering of nearly 500 guests radiated a positivity the industry had only dared dream of just a few years before.

Part of the ethos behind the Awards was a shared desire to celebrate and recognise the achievements of the industry as an antidote to the darker side of shipping which seemed to dominate public perception.

The Seatrade Awards have become known as the forum of recognition for industry successes. For this reason, it’s a benchmark for all maritime organisations and a permanent feature in many industry calendars.
